February 2010
DREAM-A-Way is proud to announce that we have raised our
first £1million!
More than 99% of this fantastic total has been used to fund holidays and
outings
for local disabled people of all ages.
The presentation of the millionth pound was made by the Lord Mayor
of Exeter, Councillor John Winterbottom, at the historic Exeter
Guildhall
on Wednesday February 17th 2010.
The Lord Mayor addressed those present and paid tribute to the
hard work and dedication of the Dream-A-Way Trustees and
Committee, both past and present.
Particular recognition was
given to the three founder members of Dream-A-Way still active
within the charity - Chairman Jeff Merrett MBE, Vice Chair &
Secretary Robert Beer and Trustee Charlie Thomas.
Councillor Winterbottom also highlighted the tremendous work and
efforts of our Friends and Ambassadors as well as all our
volunteers, without whom our successes simply would not be
possible.
The Lord Mayor then presented the millionth £1 coin to the three
remaining founders of the charity, Jeff, Bob, Charlie.
The presentation event was attended by many Dream-A-Way friends and supporters
along with our Ambassadors. Dream-A-Way Patron Sir John Evans and President Mr Nigel
Mansell were also able to attend to celebrate the success. Nigel
mingled with the guests, met with our Ambassadors and spent some
time chatting with the Biddulph Family.
Chairman Jeff Merrett commented "It really is fantastic to see so
many of our supporters and friends here today to celebrate with
us. The road to our first million has been a tough one, but we've
been touched by so many wonderful people and helped thousands of
individuals and families have a Dream-A-Way holiday it's been well
worth it. We've gone from strength to strength and keep on
growing. We've had a massive boost this year with the wonderful
support of Councillor Winterbottom and his wife Joelle. It's even
more special that we have reached the first million whilst working
alongside the Mayor. To show our thanks for their support over the
past year we have decided to name our recently purchased eighth
luxury holiday home at Devon Cliffs, Sandy Bay after John and
Joelle".
The whole Dream-A-Way team wish to express our sincere thanks to everyone
who has supported us in reaching our first £1,000,000. We really
couldn't have done it without the hard work, dedication and support
of all our friends, sponsors, supporters and helpers - so thank you all so much.
There's
plenty more to come from us and we'll continue to spend everything
we raise directly on the very deserving people we help.
Bring on the next million!
