Teams Needed For Dragon Boat Fun Day

7th february 2008

The organisers of a dragonboat race hope that Chinese New Year will inspire sponsors and participants to come forward.

The Year of the Rat will see Dream-A-Way host its first ever dragonboat racing day at Exeter Quay on Sunday, August 31 2008.

The charity, which sends disabled people from the South West on holidays and day trips, has already got three major sponsors but is hoping to attract more to cover the cost of putting on the event, which will be run by Gable Events.

South West Crane Hire, Supreme Cleaning Services and Heavitree Brewery have each contributed £1,000.

Dream-A-Way chairman Jeff Merrett said there had already been great support from Exeter City Council and local businesses.

He said: "If the event is self-funding, every penny we make will be profit for Dream-A-Way."

A maximum of 21 teams of 17 people can take part in the event, which aims to be a quality fun day.

Teams, which can be made up of workmates, friends, neighbours or other groups, are advised to book as soon as possible.

Teams will be charged £500 to enter, and each team member will also have to raise at least £30 for Dream-A-Way.
