Dragons Take To City Water In Aid Of Dream Trip Charity

11th April 2008

Exeter businesses and families are being invited to enter a fun boat race day to help a city charity provide dream holidays for disabled people.

Dream-a-way is keen to hear from businesses or members of the public who want to take part in a day's dragon boat racing
on Exeter's Quay to help raise funds for the organisation.
Each boat can accommodate 17 people, which will include 16 rowers and one drummer, whose task is to help keep their team in time.

Adrian Robinson from Dream-A-Way, who organised the event, said:
"This is the first year an event like this will have been arranged by the charity in Exeter. This is perfect for a great family fun day out and if you can only get a few people together we will put you with another team."

The event has four main sponsors, the Echo, Heavitree Brewery, South West Crane Hire and Supreme Cleaning Services.

The organisers are also happy to welcome other companies which might like to help support the day with sponsorship.

The charity helps give people living with physical and learning difficulties the chance to go on holidays or outings.

Mr Robinson said: "We organise holidays for people of all ages from around the South West and are dedicated to providing outings to people local to the Exeter area in particular."

Dream-A-Way has sent people on holiday to Disneyland and taken coach loads of people on day trips to see pantomimes.

It also has six caravans at Sidmouth's Sandy Bay, which it allocates to people for a break.

On the day itself, the charity hopes to have other things organised such as live music and children's entertainment, making it fun for those watching participating friends and families.

Anyone who is interested in taking part in the event is advised to express their interest quickly, because there is only enough room for 21 teams in total, with some of these spaces already taken.

Each team will be asked to row a minimum of three races and the entry fee per team of 17 people is £500,
while the price for an individual entrant is £30.

The event takes place on August 31 and entry forms and further details about it can be found on the charity's website under the
Dragon Boat section.

All welcome.
