Book Benefits Dream-A-Way
12th February 2008
A city charity will benefit from the launch of a new book, which contains a foreword from the former chief constable of Devon and Cornwall police.
Gordon D S Maddock's book, entitled I Was Sir, Your Fuzzy Obedient Servant, is the final work in a trilogy on policing and social history.
The author is donating a quarter of the proceeds to Dream-A-Way, a charity run by volunteers,
which provides holidays for seriously ill or disabled people from across the South West.
The book features a foreword from Sir John Evans, the charity's Patron, the former Chief Constable of Devon and Cornwall police.
Dream-A-Way chairman Jeff Merrett said:
"I am honoured that Mr Maddock has made this generous gesture and I wish him every success with the book."
The trilogy spans the years 1936 to 2000. The first two books, Fuzzy Memories and Fuzzy Moonraker Memories, record the life of a police officer in the former Cornwall Constabulary and Wiltshire Constabulary.
The latest book starts with the author's childhood memories of Plymouth during the blitz of the Second World War, continuing onto recollections of his education in two North Devon towns. This is followed by National Service in the UK and overseas in the RAF.
The stories are illustrated by the author's own sketches, cartoons and photographs.
There are memories of policing in London, Surrey and Mr Maddock's return to Devon and Cornwall in a senior management position. The book ends with examples of his law enforcement experiences in the USA, Spain and South Africa.
