Landlords Drink To A Good Cause

Pub landlords are raising a toast to a city charity, which they have pledged
to help raise funds for this year. |

Heavitree Brewery PLC, which includes the subsidiary Heavitree Inns, has named Dream-A-Way as its chosen charity for 2008,
with its pubs across the South West all supporting the good cause.
The charity, which is run by volunteers, provides holidays and day trips for seriously ill or disabled people from across the South West.
Terry Wheatley, Heavitree Inns managing director, has challenged his pub landlords to raise the most money for the charity over the next year. They are now busily thinking up new fundraising ideas to capture their regulars' imaginations.
Jeff Merrett , Chairman of Dream-A-Way, and the charity's Events Co-Ordinator Gill Freeman attended the official ceremony
to celebrate the announcement at the Ley Arms, near Kenn, in Teignbridge.
Jeff said: "I feel extremely honoured that Heavitree Brewery has chosen us to be supported by their
managed houses and I look forward to a successful year for all of us.
"I am sure we will enjoy some superb pub-based events and raise not only cash but the profile of Dream-A-Way throughout the area."
Jeff also attended the brewery's "Oscars" ceremony earlier this month,
when he gave a
presentation to its chairman, directors and landlords.
Heavitree Brewery is an independent, family owned business, with 76 tenancies across the South West, including many in the city, such as the Heart Of Oak in Pinhoe, where Dream-A-Way had its latest committee meeting.
It is a local firm, as the company was first known as the Heavitree Family Brewery,
founded by John Wolland in Church Street, Heavitree, Exeter, in 1790.
The announcement is yet another boost for the charity, after the estate agent Bradleys chose to support Dream-A-Way this year,
in a ceremony held at the company's head office in Exmouth last month.
