Dream-A-Way's Patron

Our patron is Sir John Evans, former Chief Constable of Devon & Cornwall Constabulary.

I am delighted to continue to be associated with Dream-A-Way as its Patron. Dream-A-Way was set up in 1993 to help provide holidays and outings for disabled people of all ages. The committee and helpers all work as volunteers, taking no expenses or fees. As a result we are extremely proud that more than 99% of all our fund raising is used directly to provide the holidays and outings.

In the early days of Dream-A-Way we raised our funds from holding jumble sales and by standing outside local supermarkets with collecting tins. Whilst we still do these things, now we also arrange more ambitious events such as the annual golf day at Woodbury Park, hosted by our President Nigel Mansell OBE.

We have been fortunate to be closely associated and assisted by the Camelot Foundation who have match funded many of our events. A major step forward was achieved in 2000 when I officially opened the first holiday home which Dream-A-Way purchased at Haven Holiday Park, Sandy Bay, Exmouth. In the first year 140 people made use of the facility which has provided much needed holidays for many disabled people and their carers.

In the spring of 2001 we opened our second caravan and by 2004 the number had grown to four. Now in 2008 I am pleased to say we have six caravans providing holidays for even more people.
